Board of Commissioners tours nearly completed Edwardsburg Library

Around the County Posted on January 12, 2026

Members of the Cass County Board of Commissioners and multiple elected and appointed county officials toured the new Edwardsburg Branch of the Cass District Library on Thursday as construction nears completion.

The tour, led by newly appointed Cass District Library Director Christopher Korenowsky, allowed those visiting a glimpse into the new building, set to open in approximately 45 days.

Commissioners Roseann Marchetti and Sam Barrera, who both represent the Edwardsburg area, praised the new branch’s location, amenities and potential to serve as a hub for learning and community connection.

“There is an excitement surrounding the opening of the new Edwardsburg Branch of Cass District Library,” Marchetti said. “Among the many features of the new library, not the least of which is the close proximity to the schools. Already a gathering place after school, I envision even more children taking advantage of all the library has to offer. “

The current Edwardsburg facility, located on Section Street, is rented from the Village and faces significant structural issues. Korenowsky said the new facility, located on US-12 just east of Section Street, will triple the size of the Edwardsburg branch.

“The larger, modern space will offer more resources, comfortable areas for collaboration, and amenities that truly serve the needs of families and individuals across Edwardsburg and Cass County,” Commissioner Barrera said. “This is a huge improvement for our community, and I’m eager to see the positive impact it will have on our residents.”

Those in attendance were shown a café space honoring a longtime library supporter, a great room, multiple department spaces, a makerspace and a rentable community room.

Korenowsky was joined by multiple Cass District Library board members, including Tabitha Schafer, Eileen Toney and Andrew Churchill. Each took turns explaining the careful thought that went into planning each detail of the space, from a mural created by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi to a story walk that will guide families through the outdoor path on the grounds.

“Another important feature of the new location is its walkability: the village, Chicago Trails and even the Pleasant Lake area are all within minutes of the new library,” Marchetti said. “There is much to be proud of in our new library and our community is indeed fortunate.”

Barrera emphasized the branch’s role in education, technology and family-friendly spaces.

“We’re excited to see the Edwardsburg branch become a hub for learning and community engagement,” Barrera said. “I hope to see programming that includes STEM workshops, literacy initiatives and technology-driven activities that prepare kids for the future while keeping them grounded in real-world skills. The branch’s proximity to local schools makes it an ideal space for students to do homework, relax and connect with friends.”

The library expansion was prompted by a facilities master plan conducted in 2021, and was brought to fruition by a successful Headlee Override millage in August 2022. The project is governed by the Cass District Library Board, which supports all five branches of the library throughout the county.

The Edwardsburg Branch is expected to open later this year and will serve residents throughout the village and surrounding areas.
