Team

The eight person team consists of deputies from many facets of the Sheriff's Office, including Road Patrol, Corrections, Dispatch and Volunteer/Reserve Deputies.

Training Camp

In June of 2006 deputies attended the 40 hour Honor Guard Training Camp in Holland Michigan. Lt. Randy Kantner of the Goshen, Indiana Police Department ran the camp which trained over 50 officers from the West Michigan area. The Honor Guard was trained in providing services at Law Enforcement Officer Memorials, Full Honors (line of duty death) and retiree funerals.

Appearances

The Honor Guard's first official act was presiding at the Shane Britton Memorial Service on July 19th, 2006 at the Sheriff's Office. Since that time, they have served at various funerals and functions in the area, including assisting in providing the color guard and presentation of colors at the Officer Scot Beyerstadt Memorial Service held at the Mattawan (Michigan) Police Department.

Gratitude

The Cass County Sheriff's Office wishes to thank the Dowagiac Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post 1855 and the Cass County Deputy Sheriff's Association for the donation of funds and equipment for the honor guard.
