2. This application is for a property address in Cass County unless your property is in the city limits of Dowagiac or the Township of Howard. To obtain an address from those jurisdictions please contact:

   In order to accurately assign your address, a Cass County GIS Technician will drive to your property and use a global positioning system (GPS) to take a point at the driveway entrance. This will assist emergency service vehicles, as well as postal and delivery services in locating your property. Included with the address, residents or business owners will also receive a green metallic address sign that further helps to identify the property.

   There is a $150 fee to obtain a new address.

   Before you complete this application, you will have to complete two steps:

4. 1. Driveway Permit*

   A driveway permit from the Cass County Road Commission is required for all driveways on county roads. Even if your property has an existing driveway, we still require that you contact the Road Commission to determine whether a permit is necessary. The contact information for the Road Commission is below:

   If your driveway is located along a state or federal highway, you will have to obtain a driveway permit from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) before your property can be addressed. In order to obtain a driveway permit from MDOT, you need to register and fill out the appropriate form at the website below:

   No driveway permit is necessary if your driveway is going to be on a private road. If you have completed the above step, please select the appropriate option below:

   1. I have obtained a driveway permit from the Road Commission or MDOT.
   2. I have called the Cass County Road Commission and was informed no driveway permit is necessary (driveway is staying the same with no modifications).
   3. No driveway permit is necessary because my driveway is on a private road.

   In order for Cass County GIS to accurately assign an address, the center of your driveway must be clearly marked with a ribbon tied to a stake, a cone, or something similar. In the case of existing driveways, no marking is necessary, unless there is more than one ingress/egress, in which case the primary driveway needs to be clearly marked.
