Cass County is the home of the Edward Lowe Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to champion the entrepreneurial spirit by providing information, research and educational experiences that support entrepreneurship and the free enterprise system. It works with second stage entrepreneurs across the United States. Programs sponsored by the Foundation and its partners are Companies to Watch, Peerspectives Roundtables, Leader Retreats and Entrepreneur Support Organizations.

Located in Cass County, the City of Dowagiac has been recognized State-wide for its thriving Victorian downtown. The City is also a leader in intergovernmental cooperation and was recognized with an international award for this in 2005.

The scourge of methamphetamine and illegal drugs has been controlled because voters increased their property taxes for drug enforcement. The enforcement effort has been successful as many felons have been arrested and no longer negatively impact the community.

For 16 years, the Dogwood Fine Arts Festival has provided a week each Spring of arts and culture programs. The Festival includes visual arts, music, literature, theater and story telling. Norman Mailer, Jim Harrison and Dennis Hale have been guest speakers at the Festival.
 
What makes Cass County, Michigan so special?
 
Cass County’s history is also unique. The Kentucky Raid took place in August of 1847. It is a story of how white and black citizens stood up to armed invaders from Kentucky intent on kidnapping former slaves. The local Court prevented the travesty from occurring. The Michigan Bar Association has commemorated this legal milestone with a plaque placed near the 1899 Courthouse.
